The Upper School
From thermodynamics to philosophy, from trigonometry to the history of architecture, the broad spectrum covered by all Upper School pupils in their daily Main Lesson encourages a full understanding of the world and of the ideas and concepts which have shaped our history.
The curriculum of the Upper School evolves to accommodate the adolescent's emerging capacity for analytical thought. All subjects are taught by specialists who expect their pupils to exhibit an increasing degree of independent thinking, mature expression and responsible action.
Alongside the Main Lessons and examination courses a programme of arts, crafts and drama also takes place. Art is not reserved for the "gifted" or for those who cannot cope with more academic disciplines. A love and understanding of the arts enhances the quality of every life and provides a source of inner strength with which to meet life's adversities. Guidance, including careers advice, is given by the Upper School staff as a whole and by the class guardian in particular. A class guardian acts as mentor to one class throughout its time in the Upper School. Science, art and religion take, though taught separately, the spiritual nature of humanity as their starting point. Increased intellectual content, practical and artistic expression always accompany scientific study.
